1. Overview
NearBook ("we", "our", "us") operates a peer-to-peer marketplace app where NEET aspirants can buy and sell pre-loved books. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and (optionally) your city, which is used to show you listings nearby.
Listing information
When you list a book we collect the details you provide — title, subject, publisher, condition, price, description — plus photos you upload of the book.
Messages
When you chat with another user in the app, we store those conversations so both parties can refer back to them.
Waitlist
If you join our waitlist, we store your email address so we can notify you when NearBook launches.
Device access
With your permission, the app may access your camera or photo library so you can take and upload photos of books. You can revoke this at any time in your device settings.
3. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account, and to sign you in.
- To let you list books, browse listings, and contact other users.
- To show you listings from your city first.
- To notify you about activity on your account, such as new messages.
- To send you one email when NearBook launches, if you joined the waitlist.
- To keep the app secure and to prevent abuse or fraudulent activity.
4. How we share your information
- Your name, listing details, and photos are shown to other users so they can browse and buy your books.
- Your messages are shared with the other participant(s) in that conversation.
- We use Appwrite, a cloud backend provider, to store app data. Your data may be processed in regions where Appwrite operates.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties, and we do not show ads in the app.
- We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of NearBook, our users, or others.
5. How we store and protect your information
Data is stored securely on Appwrite's cloud infrastructure with access restricted to the minimum needed to operate the service. We use HTTPS encryption in transit. No payment card details are ever collected — payments between buyers and sellers happen in person, outside the app.
6. Your choices and rights
- Sign out at any time from your profile.
- Delete your account by contacting us — we will remove your account and associated personal data, except where we are required to keep it for legal reasons.
- Revoke camera/photo access in your device settings.
- You may request a copy of, correction to, or deletion of your personal information at any time.
7. Children's privacy
NearBook is intended for users who are at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
